You will not find my latest posting here. Instead you will find it over at Let's Have A Cocktail. Why? Because I am standing in for JennyMac today whilst she is off doing something thoroughly more indulgent and entertaining with her time.
She invited applications for guest posts last week, promising to draw a lucky winner out of a hat. I commented on her posting at the time, saying that I was looking forward to reading the lucky winner. A week later she drew my name from her hat and instead of reading the end result, I found myself writing it instead.
It's nice and safe writing your own stuff on your own blog. Taking your work to someone else's place and putting it out there is a different story and I am exceptionally grateful to JennyMac for the faith she has shown. I hope that my piece does her blog and her faith justice - and that I don't get bottled off stage before I reach the end of the third paragraph.
If you would like to know how it all worked out, all you need do is click here.

It was absolutely wonderful, as are all your efforts!
Matthew,
I'm your newest follower/fan. I came over from your guest post on Jenny Mac's blog.
I always think it's so brave to do a guest post on someone else's blog. I don't think I could ever do it---and yours was amazing. Really love your style and looking forward to seeing more as I make my way around your blog a bit!
Have a great day, and so glad to "meet" you!
You continue to amaze me.
'Nuff said.
:-)
Nailed it!

excellent. Great post.
that is one of the best things ive read for ages. Sounds so much like my story it nearly brought me to tears. well done
I stopped here first to see who this Mathew/AbodeOneThree person was. If your non post is any indication of what I'm about to read on LHAC, I'm in for a treat. I'll stop back with my support or critique...depending.
Excellent. Heart-tugging. Never a disappointment.
You seem to be able to pull at my heartstrings--triggering feelings from my past--when you write.
So hear is my verdict-
Jenny Mac,
I hope your back doesn't go out on you having stuck your chest out so far with pride because you picked such a fantastic guest blogger. Yeah, don't let that happen, just chill and know that when you take a day off again that your blog is in good hands picking fine specimens like Matthew.
Well done! Now I'm going to follow you [to keep you on your toes.]
LOVE the post and am so glad we crossed blog paths. Your writing is so precise and succinct while creating such a great story.
As always, well done!
much love
EXCELLENT! Very well written!
Loved it!
A wistful and nostalgic post over at Jenny Mac's. We've all been children gazing in awe at adults who seem confident and sophisticated, aching to emulate them as we grow up. Then we emerge from the baptism of fire that makes up our childhood and come to terms with the complex and flawed individual we've become. To the casual observer we now appear confident and sophisticated but no-one sees the insecurities and inner demons we struggle with every day. It's all smoke and mirrors son - I think you've mastered it and turned out pretty well into the bargain.
(And don't tell me you don't enjoy the odd floret of broccoli ...)
That was good post (:
Another inspiring post! Thanks, Matthew. The journey from child to adult is often a twisting, bumpy one and it's nice to look back once in a while.
I just came from JennyMac's place. I so enjoyed your post. It was beautifully written!
Very cool. Congrats! I'm off to read.....

Jenny has great taste choosing a fellow Aussie from her hat!
Congrats!! and i have no doubt that she is/will not be disappointed. just coming back from leaving a comment there --
it's a wonderful piece without a doubt,
smiles
It was, of course, excellent!
Are you sure she picked your name out of a hat and didn't chose you because of your awesomeness? It was a great piece!
Ah, the lesson we learn too late: adulthood isn't exactly what we imagined when we yearned for it. And danged if someone didn't lose my How To Be An Adult Manual before I could get my hands on it. ;)
Nicely said.
It's like house sitting and wanting to avoid spilling red wine on the cream carpets. I don't think I could ever guest blog - very brave.
I am writing my first guest post! it is really difficult, isn't it. I'll be popping over to read yours momentarily.
