I miss the rain on the tin roof. In Sydney we lived five minutes drive from the Opera House but had one of those modern new-fangled iron roofs. Couldn't hear a damn thing when it was raining - but I miss it. But - last snow (probably) of winter here today so love that!

I live out in the country in a 126 year old farm house, surrounded by fields on 3 sides. The summer storms here are amazing and terrifying at the same time! Usually they start in late May and often continue until November.

And yet tomorrow, just into March, they are calling for Thunderstorms!

Don't you just love when Mother Nature kicks up her heels? :)

I love the rain, but after moving to North Carolina I was introduced to the thunderstorm, which I have found to be a bit unsettling. The electricity turns on and off, windows shake...don't horror movies start out like that??

I still struggle sometimes, I wake up in the middle of the night missing my home like crazy...but then I remind myself that I have built a good life for me where I am.. so for me, it's bit more difficult..

I relate to your thought about the first settlers in Australia. I often wonder about the first settlers here in Canada too - how harsh, how wild and strange the environment, and how vulnerable and often ill-equipped the settler.
